Death Leaves a Trace

Private alpha #1 · Thursday 24 September 2026

Alpha #1 is over

The server opened at 9:21 pm and closed at 11:05 pm (Paris time). For almost two hours, Ravenholm had its first inhabitants: they walked, fought, died — and came back.

We took notes all evening. Your feedback came in through the #alpha-bugs channel on Discord, through private messages and through the end-of-session questionnaire: every report has been read and sorted, and the first fixes are already done in the development build.

This page stays online as a keepsake. For alpha #2, meet us on Discord.

Above all: not a single server crash, from start to finish. It still has room to welcome more players next time.

What you told us

Fifteen pieces of feedback were collected during and after the session. Here is where they stand.

Already fixed
  • Loot is easier to see on the ground and easier to pick up.
  • A monster turns on whoever hit it last.
  • An item's tooltip no longer stays on screen once the inventory is closed.
  • A single login screen at launch.
  • The Main and Trade chat channels reach the whole server.
  • The pointer changes with what it aims at: pick up, attack, talk.
  • Accepting a quest is easier to spot; NPC keywords stand out.
On the workbench
  • Outfits shown wrongly to other players.
  • The prologue music lingering after creating a hero.
  • Monsters hit from range heading back home.
  • Dungeon walls hiding the rats.
  • A map of the village.

Thank you

To everyone who came on a Thursday evening to break in a brand-new game: thank you.

Thanks to those who kept hunting until closing time — Slikeur, Muggen and Davatchou leading the way —, to those who took the time to report every bug, and to those who filled in the questionnaire. Your traces remained: they are already shaping what comes next.

You played and haven't answered yet? The questionnaire is still open.

See you there

Alpha #2

It is planned for November 2026; the exact date will be announced on Discord. As planned, alpha #1 accounts will be wiped: everyone will start again from scratch.

64-bit Windows

The game only runs on Windows for now.

A launcher

In the works: it will install the game and keep it up to date on its own.

The Discord

That is where everything will be announced, sign-ups included.

The charter

The rules signed by the alpha #1 testers, kept here as a record. The first one still stands: what you saw stays between us.

  1. Nothing leaves the circle. No screenshots, no videos, no livestreams of the game posted online: not on social networks, not on Discord servers, not on forums. What you see stays between us.
  2. The client is not to be shared. The link and the file are for you alone.
  3. Ten minutes at least. During the test, stay connected for at least ten minutes: that is what makes the server's measurements useful.
  4. The questionnaire, at the end. A few ratings out of ten stars, and a comment if you like. Two or three minutes.
  5. It's an alpha. Bugs, crashes, disconnections: they are expected, that's exactly why we're here. Everything will be wiped after the session.
  6. Play fair. No cheating, respect for others. A bug gets reported, not exploited.
  7. Your information is only used for the alpha. Your name, your contact and your password are used only to organise the session, and are deleted afterwards. Your password is visible to the organiser: pick a simple one that you use nowhere else.

Anyone who breaks the charter loses their access.
